Cuntry Diktator - "Ihr bekommt den Country aus den Köpfen der Bengels nicht raus"
Das Quintett wurde 2008 gegründet, als drei Trailer Park Casanovas (Cot am Schlagzeug, Franklin an Mikro und Gitarre und Jap am Bass) plötzlich anfingen Countrymusik zu spielen weil es ihnen langweilig geworden war, rumzuhängen und Bücher von Tolstoi, Dostojewski und Arghezi zu lesen. Ein paar Wochen darauf schloss sich The Jet - einer der besten Mechaniker der Stadt und einer der wenigen guten Harp-Spieler aus dem mittleren Westen - der Gruppe an. Björn Schimpfen, ein Skandinavischer Trompetenspieler, der bis dahin hauptsächlich in der Norwegischen Gipsy-Musikszene unterwegs war, wurde engagiert und zusammen entwickelten sie ihren einzigartigen Stil. Obwohl beeinflusst von spätem 80er US Hardcore, Europäischen Straßentheater und 90er Jahre Minimal-Elektro, klingt ihre Musik glücklicherweise wie nichts von all dem. Sie spielen einen einfachen 50er Sound, den sie selbst ans „Country“ bezeichnen, andere als „Rockabilly“ und Brad Pitt hat sie einmal mit „dem jungen Townes Van Zandt“ verglichen, worauf hin die Band allerdings den Kontakt zu ihm abbrach.
Nach ihrem ersten Studioalbum „A Collection Of B-Sides And Rarities“ (2009) und einer Livescheibe „Live In The South-East“, welche auf Sumi Records veröffentlicht wurden, unterschrieben sie einen Vertrag bei Rebel Music Records und nahmen ihren zweiten Longplayer „Cunts N Roses“, welcher schnelle, rollende Country Beats, eine Handvoll Balladen und eine Coverversion des Traditionals „Wreck Of The Old 97“ enthält. Die Scheibe ist voll mit Geschichten über Männer, die Fehler gemacht haben, Frauen, die alles richtig gemacht haben und die Vorzüge des Güterzugreisens.
Bei ihren Liveshows klingen Cuntry Diktator meist ein wenig rauer und schneller als Auf ihren Studioalben. Dadurch scheinen sie die ansteckende Power und Partykompatibilität zu erreichen, für die sie bekannt sind und geliebt werden. Der stampfende Beat, ein pumpender Bass, eine Herzzerbrechende Bläserfraktion sowie Franklins versoffene Stimme und eine unterhaltsame Bühnenshow voll mit Stories und dummen Sprüchen garantieren großartige Musikabende bei denen die Band meist nicht aufhören kann zu spielen, die Leute nicht aufhören können zu tanzen und die Veranstalter verzweifelt versuchen zu vermitteln, dass es nun Zeit sei nach Hause zu gehen und Ruhe zu geben. Cuntry Diktator - “You can’t take the country out of the boy”
The quintet was formed in 2008 when three trailer park casanovas (Cot on the drums, Franklin on mike and guitar and Jap on the Bass) suddenly started playing country music as they got bored by hanging out and reading books by Tolstoi, Dostojewski and Arghezi. Just a few weeks later The Jet -one of the best mechanics in town and one of the few good harp players from the mid-west- joined the crew. Björn Schimpfen, a Scandinavian horn player, who was mainly paling around with the Norwegian gipsy music scene, was engaged and they started to create their unique sound. Though influenced by late 80’s US-hardcore, European street theatre and mid-nineties minimal electro, they fortunately do not sound like any of that shit. It is straight 50’s Sound, which they call “Country”, others “Rockabilly” and Brad Pitt once compared them to “the young Townes Van Zandt”, after which the band instantly severed all contact with him.
After their first studio record “A Collection Of B-Sides And Rarities” (2009) and the live record “Live In The South-East” (2010) which were published on Sumi Records, Cuntry Diktator got signed on by Rebel Music Records and recorded their second long-player “Cunts N Roses” which contains fast, rolling country beats as well as a hand full of ballads and a cover of the traditional song “Wreck Of The Ol 97” . The record is filled with tales about men who did mistakes, women who did right and the joy of riding freight trains of course.
At their live shows Cuntry Diktator usually sound a bit rougher, kick it harder and play it faster than they do on their studio albums. By this they seem to gain the infective level of power and party compatibility that the audience loves them for. The stomping beat, the pumping bass, a heart-melting wind-section as well as Franklins wasted voice and an entertaining show full of stories and stupid dialogs guarantee great nights of music at which the boys just can’t stop playing, the audience just can’t stop dancing and the organizers just can’t win through with that everybody shall shut up and go home. These evenings are usually finalized by the police. Really want these guys to play at your venue? Think twice!
